Frodis’ story is a very special one.
Concordia, the president of our animal charity, found her tied up in a dry riverbed. She was malnourished and one of her hooves was approximately three times the size of the others. Concordia told us that she needed rescuing immediately.
The rest of our team was surprised at the urgency with which Concordia wanted us to act as we had rescued animals in worse conditions before. However, we trusted her and did everything to get Frodis as quickly as possible.
Concordia insisted: “If she is not at the shelter within five days, she will die.” It took us two days to get the paperwork we needed to collect her. When our vet examined her, she confirmed her state of malnutrition but ruled out any other serious conditions.
Three days later, Betsy was born. Frodis was so skinny that it was impossible to see she was so heavily pregnant! If we had not rescued her when we did, both mother and foal would probably have died in birth.
Betsy was born completely malnourished and had a serious back injury. We have discovered that when certain owners are no longer interested in their animals and do not want to spend any more money on them, they tie them up in riverbeds to die.
In the months of September and October, the first rains arrive, the riverbeds flood and the animals drown. We know that this is hard to believe but we have evidence that documents all the cases we have witnessed over the years.
Most people in our society are unaware of these awful tragedies. Please sponsor Frodis and help us to prevent them from happening.
